Do You Make These 2 “Slow Down” Mistakes?

We all need to slow down. That’s something we talk about or hear occasionally. Our society is very busy and productive and goal oriented and taking time to relax, we’d probably all agree, is a good thing.

Lately I’ve been thinking about how this applies to the Christian life as well, particularly for men. It’s easy to take the same intensity that shapes our work life and perhaps nearly every aspect of our life and apply it to the activities that we identify with as our “spiritual walk”.

Things that by themselves seem to be “good things” can become, maybe not “bad things” but irrelevant and unfruitful. I’m thinking about our prayer life, our time in the Word, attending church, volunteering at church, reading, listening to and watching teachers and preachers, doing Christian oriented activites.

{This post was originally written for the GuysForJesus.com blog when I first started that blog.  See my About page for my thoughts on my current blog.}

Before I start posting articles on this blog, I want to define the priorities for this blog/effort, primarily for myself as a reference point, but also for others who may contribute in the future.  I think that establishing and maintaining these priorities is important so that there is a consistent theme that participants can rely on.

#1 – Jesus

I always want the focus, the attention, and the glory for this blog to be on Jesus.  He is the King of Kings.  He is our Creator.  He is our Savior.  He is the reason for our existence.  As guys, we can and should look to Him as our Father, Teacher, and Mentor.  He is the answer to our every question about being a man, a father, a son, an employee and any other role we find ourselves in.  Even in spiritual discussions, it’s easy to get bogged down into technicalities and miss the main point which is having a relationship with Jesus Christ.

#2 – Guys

The next highest priority is for guys.  I don’t want this blog to be about everything under the sun.  I want it to be focused on men and issues important to men.
